    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs have so far confirmed the signing of six players, including Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva, Paseka Mako, Thabiso Monyane, Nkanyiso Shinga and Siphesihle Ndlovu.

Former Amakhosi midfielder Willard Katsande has vetted the quality of the new acquisitions.

    WHAT KATSANDE SAID

“I feel and I know that this season is going to be a different season for them and they’re going to be more competitive," said Katsande as per FARPost.

"And they’re playing in Africa [CAF Confederation Cup]. It’s also good to get that experience, and yeah, but overall, the club has done well.

“The management has done well, and the coaches are also doing well in terms of recruitment. You could see now there’s a good balance from the guys coming from outside, and also looking into our DDC.

“And it’s going to be a good balance of players because you need that, you don’t need to have the same group in terms of transition," added the former Zimbabwe captain.

“It’s going to be difficult, but now we have the younger ones, middle ones and the experienced. It’s a matter of finding the best combination. That’s why the team went to the Netherlands, to work on the tactics.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

For almost a decade now, Chiefs have been criticised for signing players who struggle to cope with the demands of playing for such a traditional giant.

That places the latest signings under heavy scrutiny going into the new season.

Fans managed to have a glimpse of what the new acquisitions can offer during Amakhosi's pre-season camp in the Netherlands.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

More signings are expected at Naturena before the start of the new season, with the names of Etiosa Ighodaro, Dzenan Zajmovic and Khanyisa Mayo being some being thrown around in transfer talk.

But in the meantime, Chiefs focus on Saturday's Toyota Cup against Asante Kotoko at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
