    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs won the Nedbank Cup last season, ending a decade-long trophy drought that has seen players and coaches come and go.

As a result, they were given a direct ticket to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup in the 2025/26 season.

It is a step in the right direction for the club under coach Nasreddine Nabi.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Some fans now feel the Glamour Boys can challenge for the Premier Soccer League title.

The last time the Soweto giants won the league was way back in the 2014/15 season, but since then, they have struggled to match Mamelodi Sundowns, who have won nine out of the 10 possible titles.

Former Glamour Boys midfielder Willard Katsande has now advised the fans on when they can at least have hopes of challenging for the PSL title.

    WHAT KATSANDE SAID

“The team is rebuilding, taking a different direction. And they’ve done well last season in terms of recruitment and also the coaches as well,” he told FARPost.

“The coaches were new, taking our team means a lot of time and as I said, if we can give the coach at least six transfer windows.

“One was last season, the other was at the beginning of the season, mid-season and now this one, the third one, then the fourth one, the fifth one, sixth one," Katsande continued.

“Then we look at him like, okay, ‘can you give us the league’? And you could see that last year he gave us the trophy, of which people are not convinced.

“Obviously, everybody’s entitled to their opinion, but if you look at the bigger picture of the project, they’re heading in the right direction," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Chiefs have so far signed six players in the ongoing transfer window, but more are expected before it closes in September.

It will be vital for Nabi to ensure his players understand the assignment and get the results consistently across all competitions.
