    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates have won the last three editions of the MTN8 and are bidding for a fourth successive title.

The triumph in three consecutive terms came under Jose Riveiro, and new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou is expected to carry on from where the Spaniard left off.

The Buccaneers captain, Nkosinathi Sibisi, believes this is a tournament which belongs to them.

    WHAT SIBISI SAID

“The foundation has been laid during pre-season," said Sibisi as per Sowetan Live.

"We have new players, a new coach... fresh ideas, also renewed energy from the players who've been with the team for the past few seasons.

“I think we have added quality players in every position, so for us it is just to work hard and win the MTN8 to set the tone for the rest of the season.  Winning it three times in a row, you don't forget the feeling," added the newly-appointed Buccaneers substantive captain.

“We want to do it for the fourth time because it's a feeling you don't want to lose. We want to defend what's ours... to be in the club's history books.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Pirates begin their MTN8 title defence with a quarter-final clash against Polokwane City at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

It will be Ouaddou's first official match in charge of the Buccaneers, and that game could give a hint of what to expect from him for the rest of the season.

The former Fulham defender would be under heavy scrutiny to see if he can better what Riveiro achieved in this tournament.

    WHAT NEXT FOR PIRATES?

Polokwane City arrive at Orlando Stadium keen on causing an upset in front of the Buccaneers fans.

Should they achieve that, Pirates fans might develop some scepticism about Ouaddou.
