    WHAT HAPPENED?

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Orlando Pirates 4-1 in a Premier Soccer League match last Saturday.

It was a convincing victory but Masandawana coach Miguel Cardoso was not happy with their final preparations for that game.

A day before the match, Cardoso and his men took time to attend the 2025 Fifa World Cup trophy tour.

    WHAT CARDOSO SAID

“When I was at Esperance they thought the championship was won every time, but when I went there they had lost the previous one," Cardoso told the media.

"So, to win the championship last year at Esperance was tough because they were not the champions, Etoile du Sahel were the champions because they thought winning it was easy.

"They were just thinking about the Champions League and when you do that you make a big mistake. This championship will be tough, believe me, and we don't think about the Champions League or the [Fifa Club] World Cup. We do our schedule according to what we have to do," added the Portuguese.

"Believe me, yesterday [Friday] I was so pissed off because we had a day to think about the World Cup when we should be thinking about Pirates.

"I was not happy believe me because I know what we have ahead. So for us, ahead is only and always the next match."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Now currently seized with the PSL campaign and consolidating their lead, Sundowns also have the Nedbank Cup to balance with.

They will then return to the Caf Champions League campaign in March.

After completing their domestic and continental responsibilities, they will then start focusing on the World Cup as per how they do business, according to Cardoso.
