Contenders for this term's Premier Soccer League awards are expected to be named in the upcoming week.

The debate on the league's best player has been raging, and a number of names have been suggested.

Kaizer Chiefs forward Gaston Sirino picks the player he believes was outstanding this season and will succeed Ronwen Williams as the Footballer of the Season.

“Of course, of course. Lucas Ribeiro is a top player and also my friend," said Sirino as per Soccer Laduma.

"I think he has all the qualities to be player of the season because the numbers are there as well. He plays well in every game and Sundowns are also doing well. 

"For me, he is the best player in South Africa now. He deserves to be the player of the season."

In his second season playing PSL football, Ribeiro remains a firm favourite to claim this prestigious gong despite losing form in recent games.

The Brazilian last scored in the league at the beginning of March and went the entire April without finding the back of the net.

Even when enduring a dry patch, Ribeiro continues to lead the PSL top scorers chart, with those trailing him struggling to reach his 13 goals.

Sundowns are left with four matches before concluding their PSL campaign, and they host Chippa United on Wednesday.

Those games are opportunities for Ribeiro to further solidify his case as the league's best player this season.
