    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs legend Patrick Mayo explained why Orlando Pirates have done a better job in the transfer window.

Both Amakhosi and their Soweto rivals have been among the busiest Premier Soccer League sides in the transfer window, and their business has now been compared.

To Mayo, Bucs have done a better job because they have signed players that he says will help them compete with Mamelodi Sundowns.

    WHAT MAYO SAID

"Overall, Pirates are having the best transfer window compared to Chiefs. Pirates are making serious signings and demonstrating their intentions for the upcoming season," Mayo told KickOff.

"They want to compete with Sundowns this year. I don't understand why Chiefs can't do the same since they have the financial means. It's puzzling as to why they are not signing more players," he added.

    WHAT IS MORE

The retired Bafana Bafana defender has also assessed Chiefs' squad and pointed out what they still need.

"I must admit, there has been improvement in Chiefs' game; their pre-season matches in the Netherlands give me hope. I'm positive they will perform better than they did last season. However, to be honest, their squad still lacks depth in all departments," he stated.

"They need to find a goalkeeper. In defence, players like Inacio (Miguel) and (Zitha) Kwinika haven't been performing well. I’m not sure why Kwinika’s contract was extended, as he and Given Msimango have not yet delivered their best performances. They need a centre-back who can effectively marshal the defence," he added.

"In midfield, they need someone who can fulfill the Nengomasha role—the one who does the crucial work for the team. Upfront, they still lack a player who can emulate Collins Mbesuma."

The Sea Robbers have strengthened their playing unit by bringing on board Kamogelo Sebelebele, Tshepang Moremi, Oswin Appollis, Sihle Nduli, Sipho Mbule, Yanela Mbuthuma, Masindi Nemtajela, Nkosikhona Ndaba, Tshepo Mashiloane, and Sinoxolo Kwayiba.

On the other hand, Nasreddine Nabi has acquired Paseka Mako, Thabiso Monyane, Nkanyiso Shinga, Ethan Chislett, Siphosihle Ndlovu, and Flavio Silva.

Both sides have tested their new signings during their pre-season friendlies in Europe. Unlike Chiefs, Pirates are yet to conclude their pre-season as they are set to face Granada on Saturday.
