    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Isaac Mabotsa has cautioned that it is too early for the club to dream of winning the Premier Soccer League title at this point in time.

Amakhosi have started the new season in an explosive manner, winning all three games, and this has boosted the fans' expectations that indeed their club is now ready to challenge for the title.

However, Mabotsa cautions, Chiefs' chances of winning the title can only be assessed after 10 games.

    WHAT MABOTSA SAID

"Of course, Chiefs is a big brand, and we always aim to win the league. We can’t shy away from that. We are heading in the right direction," Mabotsa told KickOff.

"As with any major club, Chiefs target the league title every season. We have done our building, and now it’s time to deliver," he added.

"However, it’s still too early to say whether they will succeed in winning the league; let's assess them after 10 games.

"I’m also pleased with the squad they have assembled. So far, so good. You can see how happy the supporters are."

    WHAT IS MORE

Although Mabotsa is cautious, he is satisfied with the direction Chiefs is taking.

"We are improving; for me, it’s still early days, but it’s a good start," Mabotsa added.

"Even though we’re not playing the kind of football we aspire to, at least we are getting results, which is the most important thing. That’s where you build confidence. Things are moving in the right direction."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chiefs have been impressive even though they are under assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, as head coach Nasreddine Nabi was away attending to a family matter in Tunisia.

However, the tactician is expected to be in charge when Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns meet.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

The Glamour Boys will face what is believed to be their biggest test so far on August 27 when they will tackle Sundowns.

However, Chiefs will face the PSL defending champions at a time they are wounded; Downs were knocked out of the MTN8 by Chiefs' bitter rivals, Orlando Pirates. This is a situation Amakhosi can exploit: beat Sundowns and pile more pressure on them to widen the gap separating them.
