    WHAT HAPPENED?

After his move from Cape Town City to CR Belouizdad, Khanysia Mayo struggled to settle, failing to convince the technical team that he was the right man for the job.

The lefty, who attracted interest from Kaizer Chiefs before joining the Algerian club a few months ago, failed to score in his first eight appearances for the Algerian team in competitive games.

However, he has now managed to get his mojo back. On Tuesday, he scored his third goal in the last four matches across all competitions as Belouizdad beat JS Saoura 3-0 in a league outing.

The other two goals were scored by Abdelkader Meziane and Aymen Mahious.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mayo's current form is good news for Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.

The Belgian hopes to have a wide pool of players to select his team from during international assignments.

South Africa embark on their quest to qualify for the 2026 Fifa World Cup with hurdles against Lesotho and Benin in March.

Mayo hopes to be considered for the assignments and eventually prove to Broos that he can make an impact during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco.

    WHAT NEXT?

Mayo's main concern right now is to help Belouizdad win their two matches at hand for a chance to win the league. The team is currently placed seventh on the table with 16 points from 10 matches.

Kabylie lead the race for the title with 21 points having played 12 matches.

On Sunday, he will be with his team in Cairo playing against Percy Tau's Al Ahly in Group C's Caf Champions League game.
