    WHAT HAPPENED?

Mamelodi Sundowns failed to win the 2024/25 Caf Champions League trophy after reaching the final, where they lost to Pyramids FC.

That attracted the anger of Masandawana fans, especially coach Miguel Cardoso's decision not to use captain Themba Zwane and give limited game time to experienced forward Peter Shalulile.

Former Sundowns triker Anthony Laffor has joined a growing chorus of voices calling for the sacking of Cardoso, and he names the man he thinks can help Masandawana conquer the continent.

    WHAT LAFFOR SAID

"Coach Pitso Mosimane, only if you could get a chance to take over our beloved club Sundowns, next season Champions League is sure. Let us put football politics aside," Laffor said on social media.

"It’s about that time Pitso Mosimane comes back home. Only he knows how to coach Sundowns. I've been there, I know exactly what I’m talking about."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

However, Mosimane's chances of returning to Masandawana look very slim despite him currently being unattached.

The former Bafana Bafana coach is involved in a legal wrangle with the Brazilians, who are demanding back the money they had paid him upfront before he terminated his contract with the club.

Rumours suggest that Mosimane is a frontrunner to land the Zamalek job, a role Rhulani Mokwena turned down to make way for his mentor.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SUNDOWNS?

A huge test awaits Cardoso at the Fifa Club World Cup, where they will face Ulsan HD, Borussia Dortmund and Fluminense.

How Sundowns fare at this global club competition could have a bearing on Cardoso's future at the club.
