Following his release by Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, with his lucrative contract being terminated there following much-publicised injury struggles, Neymar took the decision to return to his roots on a short-term deal.

At 33 years of age, he is proving once again that he is no fading force. With confidence flowing once more, Brazil’s all-time leading scorer has rediscovered his spark and a smile - making it three goals and three assists in four games in the 2-0 victory over RB Bragantino, despite being forced off with a slight knock.

Neymar put Santos on their way to another victory in that contest, with there less than nine minutes on the clock when he found the target. There appeared to be little threat as he strode up a free-kick wide on the left, just seven yards from the edge of the pitch. Neymar was, however, able to whip a low strike around the wall and in at the near post, via a slight deflection.

Emotion spilled out of Neymar as he turned to lap up the applause of a jubilant home support. He beat his chest while being mobbed by team-mates. The fine form being displayed by the South American forward has led to reports suggesting that he could make a sensational return to La Liga giants Barcelona this summer.

Concerns regarding another potential injury for Neymar have been played down. The man himself has said in a social media post: "I'm fine, I felt some discomfort and I thought I'd better spare myself! It's been a while since I played a game with this intensity... Super happy to be getting back in better shape! Thank you all for the messages!!!!"
