Getafe, with Manchester United loanee Greenwood once again included in their ranks, thought they were on course to take at least a point from their visit to Estadio El Sadar. With a little over 10 minutes left on the clock, they suddenly found themselves trailing in spectacular fashion.

There appeared to be little threat when Areso battled his way towards the corner flag down Osasuna’s right flank. Somehow, the 24-year-old full-back managed to find enough space in which to wrap his foot around the ball and send it sailing towards the penalty area.

Getafe goalkeeper David Soria soon realised that he was in trouble, with the ball looping over his head as he began to backpedal frantically. Despite waving a desperate arm at the cross-shot, Soria was left in a crumpled heap on the turf as a stunning effort crashed into the back of his net.

Areso wheeled away in celebration, having scored a Puskas Award-worthy goal, and proved to be the match-winner on the day as Osasuna held on for a 3-2 victory – leaving Greenwood and Co to reflect on what could have been.
