    WHAT HAPPENED?

    Amajita stamped their authority early, opening the scoring in just the fourth minute through Njabulo Mzimela. The second half continued similarly, with Simphiwe Mlondo doubling South Africa’s lead in the 66th minute. 

    Just nine minutes later, Omphemetse Sekgoto made it 3-0, sealing a dominant performance and securing the Region 5 Youth Games crown in emphatic style.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Cape Town City’s Emile Witbooi was named Player of the Match after providing assists for two goals in the final. 

    The victory capped off a remarkable run for South Africa’s U20 side, who continue to shine on the continental stage.

    Having won the COSAFA U20 Men’s Championship in Mozambique last year, they recently added the U20 Africa Cup of Nations title to their growing list of achievements and secured qualification for the FIFA U20 World Cup.

    Following yet another impressive victory, attention has turned to 16-year-old Emile Witbooi, who, according to iDiski Times, has been offered to Mamelodi Sundowns for R60 million by Cape Town City along with teammates Shakeel April, Jaedin Rhodes and Jody Ah Shene. 

    The Citizens are looking to offload talent after being relegated to the National First Division following their failure to win the recent promotion playoffs.
