Veteran scouting chief confirms Al Ahly's interest in Kaizer Chiefs-linked Monnapule Saleng - 'Similar to Percy Tau in his style of play, but faster and with great skills'

Veteran scouting chief Hany Ramzy has confirmed Egyptian giants Al Ahly were interested in signing Monnapule Saleng from Orlando Pirates.

Ramzy said one of the traits that sparked Al Ahly's interest is Saleng's similarities with Percy Tau.

Tau played for the record Caf Champions League champions from 2021 to 2025; thus, the comparison with Saleng.

"There are names I think Al Ahly should sign. A player in South Africa, similar to Percy Tau in his style of play, but faster and with great skills. His name is Saleng; he plays for Orlando Pirates," Ramzy told Kora Talks Podcast.

"This nomination was made a season and a half ago. We thought he was an excellent player, and Marcel Koller followed him and expressed his admiration, but no decision was made regarding him either.

"The deal was not completed."

Saleng has been ostracised at Pirates, having last played for the Soweto giants in December last year.

His fallout with the club is linked to a reported saga around his wages, and although he has not been in action for a considerable period, he has been linked with a number of clubs.

Kaizer Chiefs are the latest side that are rumoured to be interested in Saleng, while his future at Pirates looks bleak.

With Jose Riveiro now in charge at Al Ahly, it remains to be seen whether the interest in Saleng will be activated again.

He is expected to be one of the many players whose future will attract a lot of speculation in the transfer window.

Bucs' fans will also eagerly follow Saleng's updates, as they would want to know whether he will be accepted and integrated back into the squad or his future lies elsewhere.
