    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teko Modise has warned Orlando Pirates against underestimating Kaizer Chiefs during the Nedbank Cup final.

The retired Bafana Bafana star said it would be a mistake of monumental proportions if Pirates judged Chiefs because of their current form.

    WHAT MODISE SAID

“Let’s not make the mistake of thinking that Kaizer Chiefs are coming to this match as the underdogs. That would be the biggest mistake for Orlando Pirates to think that Kaizer Chiefs are underdogs,” Modise said, as per Hollywood Sports.

“Just because Orlando Pirates have been playing Caf (Champions League), Chiefs’ position on the log suggests that they are not better than Orlando Pirates. For all those factors that matter to the naked eye, this is not a game that relies on the naked eye.

"It’s a game that might change fortunes for Kaizer Chiefs, to get better, bring back confidence, fans, and joy. This is a game that means so much more to Kaizer Chiefs than it does to Orlando Pirates. To play against a team like that is dangerous,” he stated.

    WHAT IS MORE

The Pirates' predictability has also been cited as an advantage that Chiefs can exploit.

“If they could show so much confidence against Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals, they should be able to tap into that if they really want to cause an upset," Modise added.

“The advantage for Chiefs would be knowing what Orlando Pirates is bringing. You’ve been watching them the whole season; they don’t make too many changes. You’ve seen them in Caf, in significant games, in the lineup, and in how they structure themselves, so you know what they are coming with,” Modise concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Just days after the Premier Soccer League Soweto Derby, Chiefs and Pirates are set to clash again on Saturday.

This time around, it is the cup that is at stake, with Bucs hoping to defend it against Amakhosi, who will be fighting for their only silverware of the season.

The Soweto giants are having contrasting campaigns in the league; while the Sea Robbers are second, the Glamour Boys are ninth and chasing a top-eight finish.

The Sea Robbers also reached the Caf Champions League semi-final, and this just shows how they have been better this season compared to their Soweto rivals.
