    WHAT HAPPENED?

Richards Bay coach Brandon Truter believes his team had a strong opportunity to earn maximum points against Kaizer Chiefs in Wednesday’s Premier Soccer League match.

The KwaZulu-Natal side endured their fifth league defeat against ten-man Amakhosi at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Truter, who has consistently been critical of his players, expressed feeling disappointed by the performance of his players against Nasreddine Nabi's revamped team.

    WHAT TRUTER SAID

"I am feeling a bit let down. I think the game was there for the taking, to be honest. We were let down by some poor defending,'' Truter said as quoted by Sowetan

"The second goal was a 5v3 situation and we didn't pick up the second ball. The transition from there as well, our players were so far apart from each other.

"I am very disappointed. We made a lot of wrong decisions on the ball. We were kicking possession away," added the former Moroka Swallows mentor.

"The decisions in vital areas were a bit baffling and in these situations you can't coach, you can provide structure to a player."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Richards Bay have registered one win, drew two matches, and suffered defeats on five occasions out of their eight games this season so far.

In addition, the Natal Rich Boys were eliminated from the 2024 Carling Knockout edition when they suffered a loss in the semi-finals against the champions Magesi FC.

During the match against Dikwena Tsa Meetse, it was clear that the club's chairman, Jomo Biyela, who was in the stands, was displeased with the team's performance.

Truter only joined Bay at the start of the season but he is already said to be in danger of being removed due to a sluggish start to the campaign.

    WHAT NEXT FOR TRUTER?

Richards Bay's defeat to Chiefs might add more uncertainty to Truter's prospects at the Natal Rich Boys, leading the club's management to consider releasing him.

The former Sekhukhune United coach will look to lead his team to recovery as they welcome AmaZulu at the King Zwelithini Stadium this upcoming Saturday.
