    WHAT HAPPENED?

Mamelodi Sundowns winger Kutlwano Letlhaku has handed in a transfer request as he looks to secure a transfer to Europe.

The 19-year-old's agent, Matthew Moore, who also represents AC Milan winger Christian Pulisic and Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy, has disclosed that Masandawana rejected two offers for the talented player during the January transfer window.

Letlhaku is now on the radar of unnamed Portuguese and Danish top-tier clubs and the SAFA School of Excellence product has requested the club to sell him.

    WHAT WAS SAID?

“Yes, there was two offers for Kutlwano in the January window that Sundowns turned down. Then another offer for him from a Danish premier league club last week, which again Sundowns turned down," Moore told iDiski Times.

"Now an offer has been made to Sundowns from a club in the top league of Portugal. After the huge disappointment of missing out on three different opportunities previously to move to Europe, Kutlwano is now really excited and has made up his mind that he is determined to be allowed to take this opportunity for the next step in his career.

"He has put a request in writing to Sundowns to ask that they please conclude the transfer and allow him to go.”

    WHAT'S MORE?

“As an agency we think – like Tylon Smith’s deal that we did with QPR – that this is a wonderful next step for the future development of Kutlwano and is a testimony to the great work that Sundowns is doing with their academy," Moore added.

“We assume that Sundowns see this for the great opportunity it is for Kutlwano and his family, and we hope that they agree this time to his departure and that he goes with their blessing.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Letlhaku, who is tied to a long-term deal at Sundowns, was used as a bit-part player last season, making just six appearances in the PSL and scoring two goals.

The South Africa under-20 international showcased his talent on the biggest stage in club football, the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in June, as he grabbed an assist in Sundowns' 4-3 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

The current season has seen Letlhaku feature as a substitute against Richards Bay in the MTN8 on August 4, with the likes of Arthur Sales and Tashreeq Matthews preferred ahead of him.

The youngster got an assist after setting up Siyabonga Mabena for the fourth goal as Masandawana claimed an emphatic 4-0 win.

    WHAT NEXT?

The ball is now in the Tshwane giants' court, and influential figures at the club, such as president Tlhopie Motsepe and sporting director Flemming Berg, have to decide whether to sell or keep Letlhaku.

Sundowns are set to take on Chippa United in Saturday's PSL encounter and it remains to be seen whether coach Miguel Cardoso will field the teenager.
