Former Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United star Thuso Phala made the headlines this week after he seemingly confessed to age cheating.

Falsifying dates of birth is seen as common in African football, especially at age-group tournaments where the introduction of eligibility tests seems not to have deterred players from tampering with their identity documents.
