    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe has told Kaizer Chiefs to keep Nasreddine Nabi despite the struggles experienced in the Premier Soccer League.

The former Amakhosi skipper said there is a need to keep the coach for stability that will bring about consistency. Instead of sacking the coach, Radebe believes the right move should be to sign quality players.

    WHAT RADEBE SAID

"It’s a pity that we judge coaches by results, and he wasn't great in the league but got us what we haven't had in the longest time, which is a trophy. I think Nabi deserves another season so that we can see where he is heading," Radebe said, as quoted by KickOff.

"For him to bring consistency and the team to get better in the league so that we challenge for honours and qualify for continental football, the club must invest in players."

"We are hungry for success, and Nabi needs the necessary support from the club. This is a big brand on the continent, and support for the coach when it comes to recruiting players is crucial," he added.

"They won the Nedbank Cup, and this could be a great platform on which to build a team that will consistently win trophies and compete for league honours."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Nabi has been under an immense spotlight despite the fact that he has been at Chiefs for only one season. In that period, he managed to win the Nedbank Cup, ending a long trophy drought at Naturena.

He ended the wait for trophies in a symbolic manner, leading the Glamour Boys past their traditional rivals, Orlando Pirates, who were also the defending champions.

However, this has not ended scrutiny on his performance, with some pundits saying the cup is not an important trophy that one can massively brag about.

The former Young Africans SC head coach has particularly been put under scrutiny given how Chiefs performed in the Premier Soccer League. They finished outside the top eight bracket and ended the season with a streak of nine games without a win.

    WHAT NEXT FOR NABI?

With speculation growing on Nabi's future, it is only the club's hierarchy that will decide on his fate.

For now, though, it looks like the Tunisian could keep his job as he prepares the team for the pre-season.
