    WHAT HAPPENED?

Cassius Mailula and Thembinkosi Lorch started but failed to shine as Wydad Athletic Club couldn't get maximum points against Olympic Safi in the Botola Pro League outing played on Thursday night.

Oussama Zemraoui opened the scoring for Wydad in the third minute to give Rhulani Mokwena's outfit a first-half lead.

In the 72nd minute, the Red Castle suffered a numerical disadvantage after the sending-off of El Mehdi Moubarik.

The hosts capitalised in the 87th minute as Mehdi Ashabi found the back of the net to ensure it ended 1-1.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

It is the sixth consecutive draw for Wydad Casablanca who are hoping to get a Caf Champions League slot.

Currently, they are third on the table with 45 points, six less than FAR Rabat, who are behind leaders RS Berkane.

With three games to go, the Red Castle have to win the remaining games to stand a chance of finishing second.

However, as it is, they might miss out on even making the top four since FUS Rabat and Renaissance Zemamra are hot on their heels, with each having 44 points.

    TELL ME MORE

Mokwena was appointed the club's head coach at the beginning of the season.

His mandate was to help the Red Castle get back to Caf Competitions and challenge for the Botola Pro League top positions after a disappointing sixth-place finish last season.

However, the team is set to finish the campaign without a trophy but might qualify for the Caf competitions.

    WHAT NEXT?

Chances are high that Mokwena might not be with the club beyond this season.

Premier Soccer League clubs, like Orlando Pirates, might consider having the 38-year-old as their coach after Jose Riveiro's exit in the next couple of months.
