    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates are assessing Nigerian defender Chimzulam Collins Nwoburuoke, who has been training with the first team.

The Abia Warriors centre-back arrived at the Buccaneers after initially training with Durban City.

    NWOBURUOKE THE NEW NDAH?

Interestingly, Nwoburuoke is training with the Buccaneers, who already have another Nigerian central defender Olisa Ndah and the two are managed by Prosport International.

The trialist is 20 years old and is making an attempt to join the Buccaneers, who appear well-stocked at the heart of defence.

They already have Ndah, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Tapelo Xoki and Thabiso Sesane as centre-backs.

However, Ndah has struggled with injuries and he is yet to feature for the team in 2025.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Buccaneers seem keen to sign more players despite bringing in 14 players for this season.

That could be a sign that Ouaddou still needs a central defender after assessing his needs in the eight games the Buccaneers have played so far this season.

However, with Pirates forwards like Tshegofatso Mabasa, Evidence Makgopa, Boitumelo Radiopane and Yanela Mbuthuma yet to score a single goal, that could be the department Ouaddou might need to reinforce.

    WHAT NEXT FOR PIRATES?

The Premier Soccer League transfer window closes on September 22 and that is more time for Pirates to make new signings.

It is to be seen if Ouaddou will sign Nwoburuoke in the next few days.
