The best African footballer? Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams leads Manchester United's Andre Onana, Nigeria star Ademola Lookman and PSG full-back Achraf Hakimi with most nominations at Caf Awards

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has been nominated in three categories at the 2024 Caf Awards - making him the player with the most nominations.

The experienced shot-stopper joins South Africa mentor Hugo Broos who is up for the Coach of the Year, while Bafana Bafana are up for the National Team of the Year accolade.

Sundowns, on the other hand, have also been nominated for the Club of the Year award.

This is a big gong that Williams is vying for against celebrated players like Achraf Hakimi, Chancel Mmbemba, Ademola Lookman, William Troost-Ekong and Soufiane Rahimi.

In this category, Williams is up against the likes of Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, Manchester United's Andre Onana and Lionel Mpasi of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

For his exploits in Mamelodi Sundowns colours, Williams has been recognised as one of the best players in Caf inter-club competitions.

Williams' nomination for Caf Awards comes as he is about to learn his fate in the Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d'Or awards.

The Ballon d'Or ceremony will be held on Monday and the former SuperSport United custodian is up against the likes of Emiliano Martínez, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin.
