    WHAT HAPPENED?

SuperSport have not been doing well financially, which explains why they have been selling their best players without quality replacements.

In the 2024/25 season, they narrowly avoided relegation due to struggles on the pitch, which also led to the sacking of coach Gavin Hunt.

Reports indicate that the Swanky Boys have finally given up, resulting in their exit from the Premier Soccer League.

Speculations have it that the club has been sold.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

In its three decades in the South African top-flight football, SuperSport United, formerly known as Pretoria City, left a big mark.

The Spartans won the league title three times, five Nedbank Cups, Telkom Cup, three MTN8's among others.

It is a massive blow that they have passed the mantle, which might affect several players in the team.

  • WHAT NEXT?

The newbies will now have to spend wisely in the transfer market to avoid struggling in the new season.

The 2025/26 Premier Soccer League edition is set to start on August 8, meaning they have barely a month to put their acts together.
