    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Vela Khumalo's charges secured their place in the World Cup finals at the U17 African Cup of Nations finals. Despite losing 2-0 to Burkina Faso in their last Group B fixture, Amajimbos earned a ticket to Qatar.

This happened because Egypt defeated Cameroon in the other group game, helping South Africa finish second and qualify for the global showpiece.

During the Afcon finals, Khumalo named a squad that was dominated by both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Meanwhile, the expanded World Cup will see 10 teams from Africa participating for the first time.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Round of 32 alongside the best eight third-placed teams.
