'South Africa always face hostile environment in Africa; it was either luck for Uganda or something fishy! This was a self-inflicted loss and terrible refereeing, but Bafana Bafana are bottlers of the century' - Fans

South Africa suffered a late setback at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) after surrendering a healthy lead against Uganda to crash out of the competition.

Bafana were destined for a place in the last eight, but Uganda were awarded two late penalties that changed the group's arithmetic altogether.

At the time they were leading 3-1, South Africa were at the top of the group, but when the scoreline read 3-3, they dropped to the third position, and Uganda went back to the top.

This only meant that Uganda and second-placed Algeria progressed to the knockout phase, while South Africa joined Niger and Guinea on the elimination list.

After the thrilling encounter at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, GOAL takes a look at how the fans reacted.

    Shocking decision

Shocking decision by the ref to award that second penalty, but also our game management is poor. 3 - 1 with five mins to go and you fail to secure that? Also, that ref only added an additional 2 mins even after that delay with the VAR check. Ya neh - KayGee

    Self-inflicted defeat

Self-inflicted loss. Bafana Bafana players lacked the required discipline against Uganda. For their own future in the game, the coach must remind them that SA sent them to play football, not to fight with the official. Accept the loss and come back home - Tembelani Mangxa

    Aimless kicking

This just shows why most of those players are without clubs – just brain dead. Instead of defending by keeping the ball, they saw it fit to kick it aimlessly - Eezy

Ntseki should coach in ABC Motsepe League

We were not robbed. The defender kicked a Ugandan player in the box; the 2nd penalty was a clear handball by Masuku, the sub Ntseki made. He will never change; he must go, coach. ABC Motsepe League - PovertyKiller_Official

    Wrong sub

South Africa had the game in control, but I don't know where panic came from. Right after the first penalty, Uganda started gaining momentum. Bafana Bafana coach made a wrong sub for me - Akech Andrew

    Hostile environment

Terrible refereeing. I think in this match the boys gave it their all, yet the ref was always against South Africa. Always facing hostile environments when playing in Africa - Jibrendon SA

    Bafana must improve

I’m a patriotic South African, but the Uganda Cranes deserved to win. They are better than us for sure. We need to improve - MarvinLule
