    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is on course to win his sixth trophy since being in charge of the Buccaneers for the past three seasons.

Former Pirates midfielder Dikgang Mabalane has compared Riveiro with former Ruud Krol, who won several trophies with the Soweto giants.

    WHAT MABALANE SAID

“I wish I knew the reason for that [his exit], strange enough, we also in my era, we won the treble, and Krol left when he was on a high, and the same [could] happen with Riveiro, it could make things interesting,” Mabalane said as per iDiskiTimes.

“I’m not sure the real reason for it, but maybe something out of his control. But yeah, he has done well for the club, I think sometimes it’s better leaving on a high, but I would have wanted to see him carry on with the club.

“Maybe leading them also to a league title, he seemed to be the man to do it, I think whoever comes in, undoubtedly, would be the mandate for the new coach coming in.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Riveiro is on course to help Pirates to a sixth trophy under his charge.

This is after he helped the Buccaneers win three consecutive MTN8 titles and they are in the Nedbank Cup final for the third straight time.

Compared to Krol, the Dutchman helped the Bucaneers to the 2011 Premier Soccer League title, Nedbank Cup, two Telkom Charity Cups and the MTN8.
