Safa & PSL headed for a possible collision as Caf confirms Bafana Bafana's participation in the second 2024 Chan qualifiers

Bafana Bafana have been included in the final qualifiers of the 2024 African Nations Championship whose draw was conducted on Wednesday.

This is after South Africa initially withdrew from the Chan qualification citing a congested Premier Soccer League schedule for this tournament, according to SABC Sport.

Chan is a competition exclusively reserved for players plying their trade in domestic leagues.

North African teams, except Morocco, had also asked to be excused from the Chan qualifiers together with Bafana.

"Two teams must still book their places at the finals, with Algeria, Comoros, Gambia, Malawi, Egypt, South Africa and Gabon to take part in a qualification campaign to fill the slots in the draw for Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2," Caf said in a statement.

If Bafana qualify, they will be in Group C together with Uganda, Niger and Guinea.

It remains to be seen who will coach Bafana in the Chan qualifiers although it might be Hugo Broos' assistant Helman Mkhalele who was in charge of South Africa's 2024 Cosafa Cup side.

Also, with the PSL action in full swing, it is to be seen which players will be selected for this tournament.

This provides a stern test for the coach who will guide Bafana in this tournament, having to do with a makeshift squad.

Caf is yet to conduct the draw for the qualifiers of teams to take up the last two Chan slots.

The date for the qualifiers is also yet to be set ahead of the tournament that kicks off in August.
