    WHAT HAPPENED?

The Premier Soccer League transfer window officially closed on Monday, September 22.

Most teams made some interesting businesses, among them Richards Bay, who struggled to deliver in the 2024/25 season before labouring late in the campaign to make the top eight.

Among the players signed by the Natal Rich Boys is the Malawi international striker Gabadinho Mhango.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Prior to joining Richards Bay, the discipline of Mhango was questioned, and critics felt it wasn't wise for the club to sign him.

There were allegations of drunkardness while at Marumo Gallants, a club he left unceremoniously. However, it has been a different journey in his new team.

He has played nine games across all competitions with a goal to his name.

Club chairman Sifiso Biyela is delighted that he decided to sign the former Orlando Pirates forward, insisting he has not seen any problem with him.

  • WHAT BIYELA SAID

“You must go for what you want and what you need, not what is available in the market,” he said as quoted by FARPost

“Right now, we are fine; we have people in all positions. To be honest, I’m impressed with all the players we’ve signed—the way they’ve fit into the team and the commitment they have.

"There was a lot of noise about his behaviour when we signed Mhango, but he has been here for three months and there hasn’t been a single issue,” Biyela concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

This season, Richards Bay have started the season quite well, winning three matches of the eight played, drawing twice, and losing the remaining three matches.

They will be needed to keep their consistency in their ambition to, once again, make the MTN8 by the end of the ongoing campaign.
