    WHAT HAPPENED?

Wydad Casablanca edged Olympic Safi 1-0 in the Moroccan Botola Pro League on Friday to ease pressure on coach Rhulani Mokwena.

The Moroccan giants are pushing to secure a Caf Champions League spot for next season and Mokwena has made their intentions clear.

    WHAT MOKWENA SAID

“I’m watching the Champions League and I’m so upset we’re not in the Champions League. We should be playing Champions League," Mokwena told the media.

“I said to the players ‘I want to see that you want to play Champions League. It’s not enough for me as a coach to want to play Champions League, you must want it also.’

“I was happy with today’s performance because it shows me they also want to do that," he added.

“The bare minimum now is to qualify for the Champions League. And then hopefully we’re still in and around the running. Berkane started very strong, they know how to win games even when they don’t play well.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Following a difficult start to the season, Wydad have now gone for four games without tasting defeat although they dropped points in two of those games they drew.

Mokwena's side is now third on the table but they have seven points fewer than leaders RS Berkane who have a game in hand.

Failing to qualify for next season's Champions League will be deemed failure for Mokwena.

    WHAT NEXT?

Mokwena will be trying to have his side settle for consistent results in their upcoming matches.

That would boost their chances of catching up with log leaders Berkane.
