    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs are set to unveil midfielder Ethan Chislett as their new player.

The 26-year-old star was with Port Vale last season, and his contract with the English League One side expires on June 3.

His agent, Mike Makaab, has revealed that Chislett was a wanted man by former Scottish champions Motherwell, and Mamelodi Sundowns, and could have also gone to Pirates, but he opted for Amakhosi.

    WHAT MAKAAB SAID

“We had a written offer from Motherwell in the Scottish Premier League, a really serious offer," Makaab said on Gagasi FM.

"Ethan Chislett’s heart was settled on coming back to South Africa and his first preference was Kaizer Chiefs.

“By the way, I’ve got a very good relationship with Kaizer Chiefs. I was there when Ethan arrived," he continued.

“I could’ve taken Ethan Chislett to Pirates, there was also interest. Honestly, there was. There was interest from Mamelodi Sundowns as well. So there was a lot of interest in Ethan Chislett."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

There have been doubts about Chislett's qualities, especially judging from the fact that he has never played top-flight football in his career.

But the fact that Mamelodi Sundowns were interested in him, as well as Makaab saying he could have easily offered the player to Pirates could speak to how good he is.

After choosing Chiefs, Chislett could now be keen on proving his doubters wrong.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHISLETT?

Chiefs are now expected to officially announce the former AFC Wimbledon star as their player anytime from now.

With Amakhosi taking part in the Caf Confederation Cup, it would be an opportunity for the midfielder to show he can play on the continent and catch the eye of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos the way Dean Furman muscled his way into the national team.
