Revealed: How former European champions snap up South Africa's own 'Diego Maradona' Siyabonga Ngezana

Bafana Bafana international Siyabonga Ngezana has been a hit since joining FCSB in the 2023/24 season.

The 27-year-old has since been a hit at the club, helping them win back-to-back Romanian top-tier crowns.

He has, since, played 72 games across all competitions. Club's owner Gigi Becali has since explained how he was convinced to go for the South African.

"If MM Stoica praises someone, I have to buy him, because he doesn’t usually give praise," he told the Fotbal Club show.

"When I signed Ngezana, he had been brought in by [agent Florin Vulturar]. MM said he looked like Maradona as a centre-back.

"If MM says something like that, it means the guy is a real footballer," Becali concluded.

Apart from the two Romanian SuperLiga titles, Ngezana has also managed to win the Romanian Super Cup with former European champions FCSB.

FCSB also managed to qualify for the Uefa Champions League but failed to get into the League Phase, eventually being relegated to the Europa League, where they crashed out in the Round of 16.

Ngezana will now be aiming to play in the prestigious European competition in the 2025/26 edition.

The versatile defender is also expected to make Hugo Broos' Bafana Bafana squad that will play in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

There have been reports that Ngezana might not be playing in Romania next season.

With his quality, Ngezana has what it takes to play in any league in the world.

He proved his quality in the Europa League with FCSB.
