    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs announced the signing of left-back Nkanyiso Shinga from Portuguese side FC Alverca.

The defender was announced as a new Amakhosi player together with midfielder Ethan Chislett and forward Flavio Silva.

Shinga's agent Zuneid Sidat, reveals they were in discussion with Chiefs for two months before they finally landed their man.

    WHAT SIDAT SAID

"We started talking to Chiefs two months ago after they approached the player and he referred them to me," Sidat told KickOff.

"It was a smooth deal because we don’t do auctioning of our players to other clubs when we do negotiations.

"I know other agencies are just about chasing money and so will run all over to all clubs seeking the best deal. We went to Chiefs because we want him to play football and get into the national team.

"It will be easier for him to get into the national team when he is at Chiefs and that is our plan. That is the right path to get into the national team," added the Managing Football Stars CEO.

"We created the opportunity and now it is for the boy to make it work after having signed a four-year contract. There were other options, but our decision on Chiefs was already made up."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The new Amakhosi signing could also have his profile come under stern scrutiny.

This is a player who was struggling to consistently play top-flight league football in Portugal, where he arrived in 2018 from KZN Academy.

To break into the Bafana Bafana set up, Shinga will have to fend off the challenge from the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Aubrey Modiba and Stellenbosch's Fawaaz Basadien.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SHINGA?

Chiefs are about to begin their pre-season tour of the Netherlands and Shinga will be part of the group that will travel to Europe.

Fans will have the first glimpse of Shinga's capabilities if Amakhosi's friendly matches are televised.
