    WHAT HAPPENED?

A club from Portugal is reportedly after Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Kutlwano Letlhaku, but they had their bid rejected by the Brazilians.

Letlhaku's suitors are said to have returned with an improved bid for the 19-year-old, and it is a final offer believed to be around R30 million plus add-ons.

The player's agent, Matthew Moore, comments on the challenges hindering South African players from moving to Europe.

    WHAT MOORE SAID

“Sundowns is a great club if you are a player who wants to play in the PSL at a club with a professional environment and win things and earn a good salary and stand a chance to compete at the highest levels in CAF competition," Moore told iDiski Times.

"No doubt about it and that is a fantastic legacy that the Motsepe family have built with Sundowns.

“But equally, if you are a young player with aspirations to play in Europe, your dreams die at Sundowns. It certainly looks like that is the way it’s going for Letlhaku and it will be a tragedy for the player – and a missed opportunity for Sundowns – if that happens.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Lelhaku is one of Sundowns' players who have attracted interest from overseas this current transfer window.

Lucas Ribeiro headlines the players pushing for moves away from the club, and the Brazilian has since terminated his Masandawana contract after agreeing on personal terms with Qatrar SC.

Khuliso Mudau and Thapelo Maseko are also said to be keen on moves to Europe.

    WHAT NEXT?

It remains to be seen if the Brazilians will accept the latest bid for Letlhaku who is a key member of the South Africa Under-20 side set to take part at the 2025 World Cup in Chile.

A move to Europe will enhance his chances of breaking into the Bafana Bafana fold.
