Relegation Fears Grow: Pitso Mosimane suffers first defeat with Abha Club as winless run continues in Saudi Pro League

Zambia international Fashion Sakala struck a brace, first scoring in the 70th minute before striking again with a minute to go, to add on to Abdelhamid Sabiri strike on the brink of half-time at Al Majma'ah Sports City Stadium. It was a difficult afternoon for Abha despite having some numerical advantage for the better part of the contest following a fourth-minute red card to the home side's defender Hussain Al Shuwaysh. After the visitors went ahead through Grzegorz Krychowiak's 29th minute penalty conversion they allowed Al Fayha to launch a successful comeback. Mosimane's men then tried to claw their way back into the game through Ahmed Abdu's stoppage-time strike but it was late.

WHAT HAPPENED?

After failing to win his first two games in charge of Abha, Mosimane has made the challenge of avoiding relegation tougher. They have now gone for 10 games winless across all competitions and Mosimane started with a 1-1 draw against Al Taawoun. Abha remain second from bottom on the Saudi Pro League table with just a point more than basement side Al Hazm. The former Al Ahly coach finds himself in a situation he is not used to after enjoying success in his home country South Africa, Al Ahly and Al Ahli.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Abha are left with 13 league games before they conclude their Saudi Pro campaign and that could be enough time for Mosimane to plot their relegation escape plan.They continue their bid to stay safe by hosting Al Tai on Friday. Al Tai are just a rung above them at 16th position and have three points more.
