Real Madrid stopper Thibaut Courtois sends heartfelt message to Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen after goalkeeper suffers horror injury against Villarreal

The Real Madrid goalkeeper set aside rivalry to wish a speedy recovery to Barcelona custodian Ter Stegen who suffered a horror knee injury on Sunday. The Germany international was carried off on a stretcher in tears during the Catalan club's 5-1 win over Villarreal.

Right after the match, RAC1 had reported that Ter Stegen could be ruled out of action for up to eight months which would potentially end his season and on Monday, after carrying out tests, Barcelona confirmed that the goalkeeper has a complete rupture in the patella.

Taking to X, the 32-year-old wrote: "I'm sorry about the injury [Ter Stegen], it really hurts to see you leave the field like that. I hope you can recover soon and we can see you in goal again."

Hansi Flick's side, who are off to a perfect start in La Liga, will aim to extend their winning streak on Wednesday when they face Getafe in their next league clash.
