The Italian coach had named Kane as his number one transfer target last summer - ahead of his international team-mate Jude Bellingham - after seeing Karim Benzema leave for Al-Ittihad, according to Relevo, but Perez refused to sanction the move. Perez had his heart set on signing Kylian Mbappe instead of the Englishman and was willing to let Madrid play without a real number nine before signing the French forward on a free transfer in the coming summer.

Perez appears set to get his way as Madrid are expected to sign Mbappe in the next transfer window. The France star has reportedly told Paris Saint-Germain that he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, though no deal with Madrid has been announced so far.
