Qatari club opens up on reported Percy Tau transfer interest as Al Ahly contract nears end

Percy Tau is in his fourth season with Al Ahly and his contract with the Egyptian side expires in June 2025.

Indications are that the Cairo giants might not renew his contract when it runs out.

That has sparked transfer rumours that Tau is a wanted man in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Hamad Dasmal Al Kuwari, the head of football at Qatar Stars League side Al-Khor has responded to Tau being linked with their club.

"We have not entered into negotiations, neither directly nor indirectly, to sign Al Ahly duo Hussein El Shahat and Percy Tau,” Al Kuwari told FilGoal.

“There is no intention at the present time to sign any professional player at all."

Tau has featured in all six of Al Ahly's Egyptian Premier Soccer League matches this season, starting three of them but is yet to score or provide an assist.

He has three goals and an assist in six Caf Champions League and played two Egyptian Super Cup games as well as starting the Caf Super Cup.

But his relationship with coach Marcel Koller is now reportedly strained and that might affect his future at the club.

With Tau in the last six months of his current deal with Ahly, it remains to be seen if he will enter into a pre-contract with any other club.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star would be pushing to be at a club where he is settled so that he can reclaim his spot in the Bafana Bafana setup ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
