Orlando Pirates dropped two points on Tuesday night after playing to a goalless draw against 10-man Stellenbosch on Tuesday night at Athlone Stadium.

Bucs, who looked dangerous from the first whistle, were given a numerical advantage when Brian Onyango denied Tshegofatso Mabasa what the officials felt was a clear scoring opportunity in the 35th minute, which resulted in a red card. Kabelo Dlamini hit the crossbar from the resulting free-kick.

Even after the break, Stellenbosch showed much-needed resilience to collect a point and dim the Sea Robbers' quest to push for the Premier Soccer League title.

Pirates are now 18 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who beat AmaZulu in another game staged on Tuesday to take their points tally to 58.

Stellies are third with 32 points.

    THE MVP

After Brian Onyango's red card, Thabo Moloisane looked even more solid.

He commanded the backline effectively and ensured Stellies collected a point against a quality Bucs team.

    THE BIG LOSER

Since joining Stellenbosch as a free agent after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns, Kenya international Brian Mandela has struggled for game time.

A suspension to Ismail Toure meant the Harambee Star would partner Thabo Moloisane at the heart of Stellies defence.

However, things did not work out for him as he received his marching orders after just 35 minutes.

    WHAT COMES NEXT?

Bucs have a massive assignment on Sunday against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium.

Masandawana won the initial meeting 4-1 and the Sea Robbers hope to avenge the defeat.

Before the international break, Steve Barker's Stellies will continue their quest for the Caf Champions League football with a game against rivals Sekhukhune United.
