    WHAT HAPPENED?

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has officially released a statement confirming the postponement of their end-of-season awards ceremony.

This decision was made to accommodate Mamelodi Sundowns, who will be representing South Africa at the Fifa Club World Cup in the USA.

With Sundowns still competing on the continental and global stage, the league felt it appropriate to delay the event.

A new date for the awards ceremony will be announced in due course. The move allows all players and teams to be fully present when the accolades are handed out.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Fans across South Africa will have to wait a little longer to see who will be crowned Footballer of the Season. The main contenders are Lucas Ribeiro of Mamelodi Sundowns and Relebohile Mofokeng of Orlando Pirates.

Ribeiro already secured the Golden Boot with 16 league goals. Mofokeng’s brilliance, especially in big games, has captured national attention. The delayed ceremony builds further anticipation for what could be one of the tightest races for the top award in years.

    WHAT NEXT FOR PSL?

This past weekend saw the unveiling of the new PSL trophy, finally presented to Mamelodi Sundowns after being kept under wraps all season. The title celebrations have concluded, but the league still has important fixtures to wrap up.

Promotion and relegation playoffs are on the horizon, with Casric Stars and Orbit College still in the mix. The upcoming weekend could determine which teams battle for a spot in the top flight next season.
