Predicting Kaizer Chiefs' XI to face Richards Bay - Former Portugal youth international to make surprise start?

Kaizer Chiefs have started the season in an explosive way, winning two of their Premier Soccer League games.

The Glamour Boys return to action for another midweek game, this time against Richards Bay at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday.

Expectations from the Chiefs' fans are to see their team win again and keep the winning momentum as the season proceeds in order to avoid finishing outside the top eight bracket again.

The two victories have come even though Chiefs are under their assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, as the head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, is away attending to a family matter.

Although the whole playing unit is looking like it is fast developing into a competitive outfit, individual brilliance can be detected. An example is Aden McCarthy, who has been outstanding and has perfectly offered the solution in defence in the absence of injured Rushwin Dortley and Given Msimango

Now, GOAL looks at how Ben Youssef and Kaze will possibly line up their squad for the third game of the season.

  • Brandon Petersen, Kaizer Chiefs, May 2025Backpage

    GOALKEEPER: Brandon Petersen

Last season, this position was problematic for Chiefs, but signs are there that a solution could have been found.

Two clean sheets in the last two games are a positive signal that, after all, Petersen is ready for the season.

    RIGHT-BACK: Thabiso Monyane

The former Pirates full-back looked to have seamlessly gotten accustomed to the Amakhosi system, and previous performances suggest the position is his to lose.

  • Bradley Cross, Kaizer ChiefsBackpage

    LEFT-BACK: Bradley Cross

He is facing stiff competition from Nkanyiso Shinga and ex-Pirates left-back Paseka Mako, but Cross has done enough to show that, indeed, he is the best to start.

  • Inacio Miguel, Kaizer ChiefsBackpage

    CENTRE-BACK: Inacio Miguel

Given his position in the team, he will always attract scrutiny, just like previous Chiefs' captains.

His experience and leadership are crucial credentials at the heart of defence as Chiefs aim to keep the winning momentum going.

  • Aden McCarthy, Kaizer ChiefsBackpage

    CENTRE-BACK: Aden McCarthy

The former Chiefs DDC captain is forming what looks like a solid partnership with Miguel.

The utility star was named Man of the Match in the last two games, and this only points out how crucial the young defender is turning out to be for the Glamour Boys.

  • Thabo Cele, Kaizer ChiefsBackpage

    CENTRAL MIDFIELDER: Thabo Cele

This is a person that the Chiefs' technical bench has fielded interchangeably between Thabo Cele and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

In the opening game, Ngcobo started and scored, but he was dropped for the game against Polokwane, with Cele starting.

  • Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Kaizer ChiefsBackpage

    CENTRAL MIDFIELDER: Sibongiseni Mthethwa

Mthethwa is the prime candidate to partner with Cele at the heart of the midfield again.

  • Mduduzi Shabalala, Kaizer Chiefs, August 2025Backpagepix

    ATTACKING MIFIELDER: Mduduzi Shabalala

The youngster remains a promising prospect for Chiefs, and given that he has started in the last two games, there is a high probability he will keep his slot.

  • Gaston Sirino, Kaizer ChiefsBackpage

    LEFT ATTACKER: Gaston Sirino

One of the experienced players in the Chiefs' dressing room, the Uruguayan is expected to be one of the attackers once again.

  • Wandile Duba, Kaizer Chiefs, August 2025Backpagepix

    RIGHT ATTACKER: Wandile Duba

He is a creative force that has at times been the deciding factor in favour of Chiefs against stubborn opponents.

This kind of influence is needed as Amakhosi hunt for another win.

  • Glody Lilepo of Kaizer ChiefsBackpagepix

    CENTRE-FORWARD: Glody Lilepo

The DR Congo forward was on target against Stellenbosch from the penalty spot and has a task to build on last season's decent start to life at Chiefs.

Former Portugal under-19 international Flavio Silva is still waiting for his work permit and international transfer certificate.
