Predicting Kaizer Chiefs' XI to face Mamelodi Sundowns - Amakhosi to unleash former Masandawana players against PSL champions?

In what is viewed as a litmus test for their Premier Soccer League title credentials, Kaizer Chiefs are set to host Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

Chiefs are enjoying three back-to-back victories, raising expectations of their fans that the Soweto giants are indeed ready to challenge for the title again.

They have been doing duties without their head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, who was away attending to a family matter, but the former Young Africans tactician is expected to be in charge during the Wednesday game.

Given that the Chiefs' squad has been doing a good job, eyes are keen to see whether Nabi's return will see a tweak to the line-up.

Now, GOAL takes a look at how the Glamour Boys could line up against the PSL defending champions.

    RIGHT-BACK: Thabiso Monyane

Quite an impressive signing for Chiefs, and the former Orlando Pirates star has cemented his place as the first choice for the right-back position.

  • Bradley Cross, Kaizer Chiefs, August 2025Backpage

    LEFT-BACK: Bradley Cross

Although there were fears that Paseka Mako and Nkanyiso Shinga's arrival would threaten his place, he has proved doubters wrong and continues to be the favourite pick for the left-back position.

  • Inacio Miguel, Kaizer ChiefsBackpage

    CENTRE-BACK: Inacio Miguel

The captain is expected to be as solid as possible as he and fellow Chiefs defenders face lethal attackers from Sundowns.

Will the skipper rise to the occasion?

  • Zitha Kwinika, Kaizer Chiefs, May 2025Backpage

    CENTRE-BACK: Zitha Kwinika

The defender has always been a reliable option when the defence department is hit with injuries or suspensions.

As Aden McCarthy is expected to be out, Kwinika is the natural fallback option, given that Rushwin Dortley and Given Msimango are yet to fully recover.

  • Thabo Cele, Kaizer Chiefs, August 2025Backpage

    CENTRAL MIDFIELDER: Thabo Cele

The 28-year-old is expected to retain his starting position, as Amakhosi need a midfield firewall against the Sundowns threats.

  • Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Kaizer ChiefsBackpage

    CENTRAL MIDFIELDER: Sibongiseni Mthethwa

He started again during the Richards Bay game before he made way for Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

Mthethwa is predicted to keep his position once more.

  • Mduduzi Shabalala, Kaizer Chiefs, August 2025Backpagepix

    ATTACKING MIFIELDER: Mduduzi Shabalala

He is expected to offer the creative brain as Chiefs face one of the toughest defensive units in the league.

  • Pule Mmodi, Kaizer ChiefsBackpage

    LEFT ATTACKER: Pule MMODI

The former Golden Arrows winger is likely to be handed a starting berth against the champions.

  • Wandile Duba, Kaizer Chiefs, 2025Backpage

    RIGHT ATTACKER: Wandile Duba

On a good day, Duba is a real threat against any kind of opposition he faces.

He is one of the brains expected to spearhead the attacks as Chiefs look for goals.

  • Glody Lilepo, Kaizer ChiefsBackpage

    CENTRE-FORWARD: Glody Lilepo

Sometimes, the Democratic Republic of Congo striker has been deployed and operated as a left-side attacker, catching opponents off guard.

This is a trick that Chiefs predictably will deploy as one of their winning strategies.

    Godspower Ighodaro is currently injured.
