    WHAT HAPPENED?

The Premier Soccer League Transfer Window is set to close on Monday, September 22, meaning teams have three days or so to conclude their business.

It is highly unlikely that Kaizer Chiefs will add any more new faces, having signed 11 players for the busy 2025/26 campaign.

However, a few might be released or sent on loan to guarantee them playing time.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Among the new players at Amakhosi are former Orlando Pirates defenders Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane.

The duo joined as free agents after the Sea Robbers deemed them surplus to requirements.

Monyane has since been solid for his new team, playing five games in a row before an unfortunate injury saw him miss the recent 3-1 loss against Sekhukhune United.

The 30-year-old Mako has played four games in the same period, including back-to-back starts in the last three outings.

The pair has been excellent, but it is Mako who has caught the attention of former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye.

    WHAT KHANYE SAID

“Paseka Mako is another brilliant addition; he’s among the best left-footed defenders in the country,” he told Soccer Laduma.

“If he can stay injury-free, I know he’s going to do well for Chiefs. Honestly, I still don’t understand why Pirates let him go because he did a good job for them and brought a lot of experience to their backline.

"But I’m happy for him because now he’s at a club where he can really enjoy his football instead of struggling for minutes," Khanye continued.

“Mako is not the type of player who should be sitting on the bench – he’s too good for that. He could even fit into Sundowns’ setup, that’s how highly I rate him.

"Chiefs got it right with him. He has speed, great timing, technical ability, and a big heart. You can see from his development that he was taught well, so, all in all, I say Chiefs got it right with the signings of those two players,” he concluded.

  • WHAT NEXT?

Monyane will miss the Saturday CAF Confederation Cup outing against Angolan outfit Kabuscorp.

However, Mako is ready to represent the Glamour Boys, once again.
