    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, has pleaded that he be given more time to build the Premier Soccer League side and make it more competitive.

The former Young Africans head coach believes that Amakhosi are under a building process and says with time, he will achieve what he wants.

    WHAT NABI SAID

"First, I am very happy for the fans, honestly happy for the chairman and all the members of the family, and also very happy for the players," Nabi told the media after masterminding a Nedbank Cup final victory against Orlando Pirates.

"But for me it is about the process. I am serious and honest about the process because it will help me, and it will help us play for the title nationally and on the continent," he added.

"I’m honest, this is a process, and I said, 'Please help me to continue to build respect for the state of the process after it happened… I gave the team and go home."

    WHAT IS MORE

Meanwhile, the 59-year-old tactician revealed what helped the Glamour Boys beat Pirates 2-1 to win the Nedbank Cup.

"It is true that we went through some difficult moments, especially after Orlando equalised because we felt that we were losing control of the game. They took advantage of that, and at halftime we tried to correct that by repositioning our players better to have better timing in our pressing," Nabi explained.

"But we felt that when we did our substitutions, we introduced (Mduduzi) Shabalala and Ashley (Du Preez), and it gave us more balance, and when you get balance, it gives you confidence to go forward, and we even scored our second goal."

He also reflected on the remaining games of the season and stressed their dream of finishing in the top eight.

"We have two games remaining against difficult Polokwane and Sekhukhune, but probably it is now about celebrating, maybe for two days, and on Monday we go back to work very serious and very committed to the next games," he continued.

"We need to get into the top eight at the end of the season."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Indeed, the cup victory is a significant moment not only for Nabi but also for Chiefs. The coach has managed to win a trophy in his first season and helped the Soweto giants end a decade-long drought.

Amakhosi also avoided a second straight defeat at the hands of Pirates, who defeated them earlier in a league encounter.

To crown the moment, the cup has been won by dethroning the defending champions, who were on the verge of a record-equalling cup.

Chiefs' last game of the season will be at home against Polokwane City on May 24.
