  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates fell 2-0 against an English outfit, Bolton Wanderers, in a match played on Friday at Marbella Football Center.

The Sea Robbers looked good in the first half an hour or so, but struggled to tame the Trotters, who looked determined to score.

In the 38th minute, poor defending allowed George Thomason to win a header, and the unmarked Charlie Warren did well to find the back of the net.

Bucs had a few chances, but they didn't capitalise on them; they were eventually punished in the 61st minute when a mistake by Melusi Buthelezi allowed George Johnston to get Bolton's second.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Last season, poor defending on set pieces saw Pirates lose the Caf Champions League semi-final against eventual champions Pyramids FC.

It wasn't a good picture to see Bucs concede, yet again, from the set pieces, with the defenders caught napping.

Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has a lot to do in ensuring his defence is better and doesn't concede goals like those in their forthcoming assignments.

    WHAT NEXT?

The Buccaneers have already seen where their mistakes were against the Trotters.

The next game will be against Cypriot outfit Pafos FC on Sunday, July 13.
