    WHAT HAPPENED?

Daine Klate, a former Orlando Pirates winger with over 100 appearances, recently shared his thoughts on young talent Relebohile Mofokeng.

Klate compared the youngster to his former teammate Masibusane Zongo, acknowledging that both players are equally talented.

However, he believes that the 20-year-old Bafana Bafana international is in a much better environment where he is being well looked after.

He emphasized how important it is for a club like Orlando Pirates to nurture players of Mofokeng's caliber.

He highlighted that the 20-year-old’s development is not only good for the club but also for South African football as a whole. His rise is a promising sign for the national team and young talents across the country.

    WHAT KLATE SAID

“I think previously, we’ve lost a lot of talent, a lot of young talent,” Klate said as reported by iDiski Times.

“If you can go back to Masibusane Zongo compared to Mofokeng, I think Mofokeng looks like he’s really been looked after. He’s in a good environment and sometimes the pressure of performing on that level for a club of Pirates magnitude can be too much.

“But for the most part, he’s really coming and at his age to do what he’s doing it only well for the national team and for a club like Orlando Pirates and yeah, even the wingers at Chiefs as well the up-and-coming boys from Chiefs," he added.

“SuperSport United has always produced players. I myself come from that background of SuperSport United academy. It’s good to see the youngsters being blooded in.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mofokeng has already showcased his immense talent, standing out in both domestic and international football.

His ability to perform at such a high level at a young age highlights his potential to play in Europe.

The key question is when—not if—he will leap to a European club.

His continued growth at Orlando Pirates will be vital in preparing him for that challenge.

For South African football, his success could inspire a new generation of players to dream bigger.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MOFOKENG?

Having helped Bafana Bafana secure qualification for Afcon 2025 in Morocco, Mofokeng’s focus now shifts back to club football.

He will aim to make a strong impact in the league and the Caf Champions League group stages.

This will be his first experience at this level, and the competition includes tough opponents like record-holder Al Ahly.

Performing against top clubs in Africa will be a valuable learning experience for the youngster.

It also provides him with an opportunity to attract international scouts as he continues to grow his reputation.
