    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates have done well to win their last five Premier Soccer League matches after a poor start to the season.

They lost back-to-back matches against Sekhukhune United and Marumo Gallants, respectively.

However, the recent wins have now taken them third on the table with 15 points, six less than leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played 10 games, three more than Bucs.

Babina Noko are second with 20 points from nine games.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

In the last three editions, Pirates have finished second in the Premier Soccer League, behind Masandawana, who have won the eight crowns in a row.

The Sea Robbers have been strongly tipped to challenge the Brazilians for the title owing to the quality within their squad.

Club legend Sibusiso Zuma has now challenged Bucs to be consistent against the so-called small teams in the league.

    WHAT ZUMA SAID

"The problem I see is, we can win games like Sundowns, Chiefs, but can we beat Sekhukhune on a Wednesday? Those are very important games," he told YouTube channel SoccerBeat.

"This is where, when I say they need to come together, perform week in, week out.

"There is championship material. You know the league is a marathon; you need to win from the beginning until the end," Zuma continued.

"It's not a huge problem [losing against 'small teams'], it's a matter of them coming together, working for each other, 'Let me make you stronger where you are weak, so we can win this match'," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Bucs have regained their form, and all they need is to keep the momentum in the South African top tier.

The defending champions have not been at their best in the ongoing campaign, explaining why Pirates and other teams have a chance to end The Brazilians' dominance.

League action now takes a backseat as PSL clubs are in Carling Knockout Cup action over the weekend, before domestic football goes on international break hiatus where the nation will be gripped by Bafana Bafana's quest to qualify for the FIFA World Cup.
