Orlando Pirates overtake Mamelodi Sundowns in the IFFHS Men’s Club World Ranking, but Kaizer Chiefs are not in the top 500

Orlando Pirates have overtaken Mamelodi Sundowns in the recent ranking released by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.

Three Premier Soccer League sides, Sundowns, Pirates, and Stellenbosch FC, have been ranked in the top 500, but Kaizer Chiefs have not appeared.

Pirates are ranked 143rd, while Sundowns are 181st. Both South African outfits advanced to the last four in the Caf Champions League, with Bucs getting eliminated by Pyramids in the semi-final.

In the final, Sundowns were beaten by Pyramids, who lifted their maiden continental trophy against the PSL heavyweights.

Stellenbosch, the third PSL club in the top 500 bracket and ranked 289th, reached the Confederation Cup semis, where they were eliminated by David Fadlu's Simba SC of Tanzania.

From the Caf zone, Pyramids are the highest-ranked club globally, with the Egyptian side placed at position 51, while Al Ahly are 53rd.

Globally, Real Madrid are ranked first despite falling short in their pursuit of Uefa Champions League and La Liga trophies. Barcelona are second, while Champions League finalists Inter Milan are third.

French giants PSG, who are the Ligue 1 winners and Champions League winners, are fourth.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are fifth, and English Premier League winners Liverpool are sixth.

Amakhosi have to make sure they perform better if they are to be ranked among the top clubs on the continent and beyond.

Considered one of the PSL's top three, given their status and history, the Glamour Boys should be competing with their peers for titles in order to get ranked among the best.
