    WHAT HAPPENED?

Marumo Gallants progressed to the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals following a hard-fought 1-0 victory against AmaZulu at Dr Rantlai Petrus Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Zindoga's first-half strike in the 18th minute was sufficient to grant Siwelele Sa Marumo the win over Usuthu.

The victory means that former Orlando Pirates captain Dan Malesela - the Gallants coach- outwitted Kaizer Chiefs legend Arthur Zwane and Vusumuzi Vilakazi - co-coaches - as Usuthu exited the tournament.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

A win at home for Gallants against AmaZulu is surely a confidence booster and a welcome relief to Malesela, whose team is struggling to secure positive results in the Premier Soccer League.

The Free State-based team joined Orlando Pirates, Stellenbosch, Durban City, and SuperSport United in the quarter-finals of the Ke Yona Ya Rona tournament.

On the other hand, Zwane and Vilakazi will be disappointed that they failed to defeat the struggling Gallants.

    WHAT NEXT?

Gallants will await to find out whom they will face in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals, with the draw ceremony scheduled for Monday, February 17.

Apart from the Nedbank Cup commitment,  Gallants will gear up for their upcoming PSL match against Mamelodi Sundowns, while AmaZulu are set to battle Sekhukhune United in their next league fixture.
