Orlando Pirates laboured to a 1-0 win over Polokwane City in a tough Premier Soccer League game staged at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

It was a tough first half for either team as chances went begging, with strikers failing to find the back of the net with the few opportunities they got.

However, the scoreline changed in the 67th minute; Bucs won a free-kick in a good area and it was nicely played in. The Polokwane defenders were caught off position with Makhehleni Makhaula forcing goalkeeper Brian Bwire to a mistake that Nkosinathi Sibisi capitalised from.

The win reduced the gap between Pirates and leaders Mamelodi Sundowns to 12 points, with three matches in hand for the former.

    THE MVP

When will Mbekezeli Mbokazi stop? The teenager produced another solid performance at the back alongside Nkosinathi Sibisi.

He is almost assured of a place in the Bafana Bafana squad in the next outing. What a gem for Mzansi!

    THE BIG LOSER

Imagine commanding your backline well only to concede a seemingly easy goal!

That is a short story of Kenya international goalkeeper Brian Bwire.

    WHAT COMES NEXT?

The next assignment for Orlando Pirates will be against MC Alger on Wednesday at the Orlando Stadium.

The Buccaneers won the first leg of the Caf Champions League quarter-final duel by a solitary goal, meaning a draw or a win of any kind will be the easiest way to make the last four.

Polokwane are not in action until April 19, when they host Sekhukhune United. Both sides are hoping to finish in Caf competition places.
