    WHAT HAPPENED?

Since late 2024, Premier Soccer League outfit Royal AM have struggled financially, something that put them in trouble with the South African Revenue Service.

The club's controversial owner Shauwn Mkhize is reportedly indebted to Sars over R40 million.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The last time Royal AM played was way back on December 29.

Since then, Thwihli Thwahla have not been involved in any top-tier assignments because Sars didn't clear them.

Recently, there have been reports Sars curator is engaged in finalizing an agreement with a prospective buyer for Royal AM as they aim for the club to be sold or liquidated.

Whatever happens, Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is hoping an amicable solution will be reached.

The Spaniard says now his focus is on the next assignment.

    WHAT RIVEIRO SAID

“It’s a topic but it’s difficult to make any comment from my side, there’s a little bit of uncertainty around what’s gonna happen to those group of players,” the Spaniard stated.

“I wish that they can find the best solution for them in the end because we talking about people who trying to do their job and work but for me, it’s difficult to answer your question like I said before to your colleague [I’d] wish now we can be all in the same number of games without these types of inconveniences.

“But these things sometimes happen in the competition we have to accept it [and] do not spend so much time thinking about things that are not gonna happen anymore.

“Just try to look at the next game, the next game as far it looks it’s going to be Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein on Saturday and again another final for us to prepare," Riveiro concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

After the game between Royal AM and Orlando Pirates scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled, the next outing for Pirates will be on Sunday against Marumo Gallants.

The Soweto giants can't afford any more slip-ups as they hope to catch runaway leaders Sundowns who currently have a 12-point gap at the top of the table.
