    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza has been at the helm of the Premier Soccer League since 2003.

The 77-year-old has played a major role in helping shape up the South African top flight, getting massive deals that have benefited the clubs and players in equal measure.

This explains why he has been elected over and over again to lead the PSL.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Khoza has been accused severally by a section of the fans for allegedly trying to single-handedly run the show for PSL.

Some feel he is a dictator who doesn't want to pave the way for others, since he will lose the privilege of having things run his way.

However, the administrator has refuted those claims, insisting it is not even close to his personality.

He has further argued that there is a committee that helps him to run the proceedings in Mzansi's top tier.

    WHAT KHOZA SAID

“How do they arrive at that? What informs that? Just because they are supporters and their team is not doing well, they think it is Irvin Khoza," he told iDiski Times

"But how do I do that when there’s an executive committee of 10 people? There’s a board of governors made up of the representatives of the 32 clubs, and we have meetings, but there’s never a motion of no confidence.

"So where does it come from? Someone is unhappy and trying to spread lies or diminish my name,” Khoza continued.

“People want to be like Khoza and [Kaizer] Motaung, but they are not aware of the hardships we’ve had to endure.

“If you were to open us up, you will see the internal bleedings that we’ve endured over the years. When you run football, it is a calling. We’ve worked too hard for this brand. There are 32 clubs, a board – it’s not a one-man show.

“But I will protect it with everything I have," The 'Iron Duke' concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Even with his heavy responsibilities for the Premier Soccer League, Khoza has ensured the Sea Robbers have stayed on top of their game domestically and abroad.

However, with his advancing age, a replacement should be put in place to ensure the standard is maintained.
